Airbnb.org Provides Free Housing for Wildfire Victims in Los Angeles

Airbnb.org is stepping up to help those affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles by offering them a place to stay for free.

These free stays are made possible by donations from Airbnb.org, along with the kindness of some Airbnb hosts who choose to offer their homes for free or at a discounted rate.

Here’s how it happens

Airbnb.org teams up with organizations to find people who urgently need a place to stay. Right now, they're working with 211 LA to find housing for those in the areas hardest hit like Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Sylmar. People in these areas who've lost their homes or had to evacuate can fill out a form with 211 LA to ask for help.

Airbnb.org is a nonprofit part of Airbnb that gives free emergency housing when disasters strike. They've offered more than 1.6 million overnight stays to over 250,000 people in need.

They can do this thanks to funding from Airbnb, donations from the public, and hosts who share their homes.

211 LA is a nonprofit too, acting as a hub for Los Angeles County, helping people connect with crucial services for over 40 years. They offer support 24/7 in multiple languages, aiding individuals and families in need.

In the past, Airbnb.org has provided free, temporary housing for people displaced by various disasters, including hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and earthquakes around the world.

Right now, those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires must fill out a form in 211 LA to get housing assistance from Airbnb.org, as they don't give housing directly to individuals.

If you want to help, you can offer free or discounted stays to those affected by the wildfires through Airbnb.org. Airbnb doesn’t charge any service fees for these stays, and hosts are covered with AirCover, providing damage protection and liability insurance.

Alternatively, you can support the cause by donating to Airbnb.org, where 100% of your contribution will go towards emergency housing.
